Double Rainbow Shines in NYC After Superstorm Sandy
After Sandy brought rain, wind, toppled trees and flooded subways, this beautiful rainbow over New York City was a sight for sore eyes. As inspirational as nature's prismatic display, however, were the responses of our readers and the support they offered to those affected by Sandy.

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, people up and down the East Coast were left devastated, whether displaced from their homes, faced with property destruction or, in the most tragic cases, having lost their loved ones. At Mashable, we've been inspired by watching how members of our community -- both online and here with us in New York City -- have reached out to neighbors to lend a hand in whatever way possible. Their support and altruism made the top comments this week on Mashable truly memorable.
In many ways, tragedies like Superstorm Sandy bring out the very best in people. We saw that in many acts of kindness performed by residents of New York and New Jersey, and in those who are donating their time and money to speed up the recovery of the area post-Sandy. Tragedies can also trigger panic, and, as we saw this week, it's not hard for fake information to go viral when all eyes are watching a story unfold online.

In spite of the awful event, the rest of the world continued to turn this week. At a time when we desperately needed some good news, we were happy to learn that the Star Wars franchise was getting a Disney reboot. We don't know what the newest incarnation of Star Wars will look like, but we can only hope that the force is strong with this one.
Google had to postpone a product launch due to Sandy, but we did see some new features introduced to Gmail. We showed our readers how to update their accounts, and were curious to hear their reactions.
And lest we forget, it was also Halloween this week. We saw great costumes and even "Hallowmemes." But a highlight for us was the creativity of our community as seen in our "Scared Twitless" contest. We asked for your best 140-character spooky stories, and your submissions amazed us. Check out some of our favorites or search the hashtag "st140" on Twitter to see them all.
We want to thank you, our readers, for supporting us during this difficult week. Our hearts go out to everyone who has been affected by Hurricane Sandy, and we wish everyone a swift recovery.
